Argyle 2003 Acrylic on canvas paper, 16" x 20". 2003. For whatever reason, I was really into argyle when I decided it would be cool to paint some argyle. I had done a practice painting that had an argyle pattern, but I realized that the geometric quality of the straight lines would be very tedious and difficult. I was messing around with a drawing program I had made for work and I drew this cool argyle-like design almost exactly like it is in this painting. I drew the design with pencil using a ruler to measure out the distances, but when it came time to paint, I had a lot of trouble keeping the lines straight and the brushstroke width equal. Looking back on it I could definitely do a better job using a different technique. If I wanted perfectly straight lines I could have used masking tape, but I wanted to try without it. I just put this image here to show off my photoshop skillz. This is the original photo I took of the painting (the frame has glass in front of it, something I will never do again). The top image was a retouched version of this terrible photo. |
